AARP Driver Safety Program
AARP sponsors a 2-day defensive driving class which may result in an insurance discount. The cost is $15 for AARP members, $20 for non-members. Reservations are required and can be made by calling the main office.
AARP Tax Aide
Tax preparation with an AARP tax volunteer can be made beginning in January. Appointments are Tuesdays and Fridays through March. Spots fill quickly so call to reserve your time early to get the best availability.
Ask-The-Nurse Program - ON HOLD
First Monday of each month, 12 - 1 pm, in the Wellness Room
Rose Jensen, R.N., BBS, MSM, Northwest Community Healthcare's Community Nurse, can provide blood pressure checks and answer your specific health and wellness questions. She can also help you manage your diabetes, understand your medications, provide nutrition education and assist you in finding a physician. Services are free and no appointment is necessary. However, if you want to discuss some health concerns, please register in the Main Office so the Nurse is prepared to spend time with you.
Blood pressure readings will be first from 12-12:30 p.m., then Q & A with the nurse between 12:30 and 1 p.m.
Adult Day Services
This program is for those with mild to moderate memory loss that gives those caring for them a break during the day. Offered four days per week, Monday through Thursday, from 11am to 3pm, this program offers exercise, socialization and lunch. Participants must be able to feed and use the restroom unassisted.
Benefits Eligiblity Screening
Our Social Services staff can provide one-on-one assistance to help find benefits available to you. Assistance is available in Spanish and Russian.
Open Computer Lab, Thursdays 10am - 12pm. Volunteers are available to answer questions and troubleshoot.
Palatine Township operates a minibus door-to-door service for seniors and permanently handicapped individuals living within the township boundaries. Call the Township office at (847) 358-6907 for further information.
Hearing screening are currently unavailable at the Center. Appointments with an audiologist can be made by calling Hearing Care of Palatine at (847) 358-2896.
Home Delivered Meals
General and special diet meals are available to homebound residents age 60 and over who are unable to prepare meals for themselves. For an eligibility assessment, contact Catholic Charities Northwest Senior Services at (847) 253-5500
Durable medical equipment, such as walkers, wheelchairs, canes and crutches are available for rental. Items can be rented for up to 3 months.
Podiatry Office Hours
Dr. Nick will begin seeing patients on May 7, 2021. Appointments are required by calling his office at (630) 782-6557. Insurance will be billed. Most insurances are accepted, except HMOs.
Senior Health Insurance Program
SHIP, the Senior Health Insurance Program is offered through the Illinois Department of Insurance. which seeks to assist seniors with tricky insurance questions. Counselors are available to assist individuals with questions or problems regarding Medicare A and B, Medicare Supplement Policies, Medicaid, Presecription Drug Plans, Medicare Advantage plans, eligibility for entitlement programs, appealing claim denials and grievances.
Medicare Open Enrollment is October 15, 2021 through December 7, 2021. Our Social Services staff can assist you through the Open Enrollment process. Call to schedule an appointment in September or early October. When you come in you will need to bring your Medicare card as well as a list of current medications so we can accurately predict your costs for the next year.
